CHALK
BANNER PROTEST
Local environmental
activists roamed the downtown core last night, leaving behind
chalk banners on the pavement urging pedestrians to "Save
the Moraine'' and "Say No To Urban Sprawl." They aimed
to raise public awareness about the danger the Oak Ridges Moraine
faces if developers are allowed to proceed with plans for housing
subdivisions on the environmentally sensitive land. The Earthroots
activists targeted high-traffic areas like the Eaton Centre, the
Annex, College Park and Queen St. A provincial panel report is
to be released this week.
